LULLABY FOR A LOVE THAT SEEMS TO HAVE GONE TO SLEEP

A starless night
Has never been as blank as I.
Look at the sky
And see the twinkles
Waver
- fading into wrinkles.
They disappear
Like salty streams
That dry on cheeks
When winds
Have blown the salt to dust

Such a beautiful night
-or morn-
6 a.m. and writing
In the dark
This lullaby
For a love
That seems to have gone to sleep

Such harsh words
Make a tender heart
Grow cold.
So cold
I'm freezing through my skin.
Within,
I see a block of ice
-inside my chest
At best
It's all I have to feel.

I hold it close.
This ghost
- of love.
That glues me into place
At least for now
I'm stable
Please don't melt
- you pelt my toes
with dripping sounds.

Drip, drip, drip!
My sing-song melody
At least you</i> sing for me...

A heartless man
Has never been as Stoic as I
Look at the skies
Stare at my eyes
And feel</i> for me
When you see

nothing.
Inspiration sometimes has the worst of sources. :sadangel:

Both pieces are tremendously powerful. So full of emotion. Well done, my dear, although I truly hope the inspiration was not your own heartache.
